Central Florida Man On A Mission For The Kids
ORLANDO, Oct. 27 – An Aston Martin. A tuxedo. A man on a mission. While this may sound like the opening scenes for the next movie in the James Bond series, its purpose was entirely different.
On August 15, one local man made it his mission to turn his birthday into something bigger than merely a party for him – instead, it was a celebration for the kids.
Gary Boyer, a Central Florida based Commercial General Contractor as well as President and Founder of Boyer Building Corporation, hosted more than 120 friends, family members and colleagues at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort to as part of his 50th birthday party with one catch – guests would donate to his favorite charity, Greater Orlando Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The soiree was complete with a nine piece band and dance floor, a martini bar, casino-style gambling, and of course, a real Aston Martin DB-9 generously provided by Orlando Aston Martin/Jaguar/Infiniti Dealership. Several guests commented afterward that it was the best birthday party they had ever attended, and one that had great meaning.
Through his James Bond themed bash, Boyer and his guests raised $10,000 for Greater Orlando Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals which benefits UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and Arnold Palmer Medical Center. Funds raised through CMN Hospitals are unrestricted, allowing these two hospitals to use the funds where they are needed the most –to purchase life-saving medical equipment, fund ground-breaking research, provide diversionary activities and support educational and advocacy programs for children’s health.
“Together, our two Greater Orlando CMN Hospitals treat approximately 250,000 children each year,” said Rebekah Swyers, Sr. Development Associate. “People often forget that children’s hospitals are charities and need donations like this to provide life-saving care. Mr. Boyer has recognized this need and we are grateful for his help in ensuring kids in our community receive the best care possible when they come to these hospitals.”
This isn’t the first time Boyer has championed the mission of Greater Orlando CMN Hospitals. His company, Boyer Building Corporation, has been a longtime supporter through Marriott Vacations Worldwide and Marriott International. “We were first approached about being a part of an event to raise funds for CMN Hospitals fourteen years ago,” said Boyer. “Since then, and by learning more about the impact we can make on the kids in our community, I’ve felt this was a way to have success in another area of my life – helping sick kids get the specialized care they need and deserve.”
“I have been blessed with a long and successful career in commercial construction – growing a business started on a shoestring budget in 2002 to a company with two Central Florida offices, a desirable list of clients and a fantastic team of construction professionals. But sometimes it takes a decision or opportunity outside your influence to provide you a chance to prove your mettle. Helping our two CMN Hospitals in Central Florida is that chance for me.”
